As the World is getting smaller, the number of people who love exploring has grown exponentially. Even though this trend is still a long way from reaching the target in India, the wanderlust has definitely started kicking in for many Indians with the advent of IT and other travel-related jobs.

A few weeks back, one gang of friends were hanging out at a friend’s place. While we chatted almost the whole night away over food and drinks, the topic of discussion eventually turned to Travel. Since all of us in the group are avid travellers, this was destined to happen. So the question that came up was which was the country currently on top of our wish list?

So here are some of the interesting countries that came up:

  • Iceland:

Watching the northern lights (Aurora Borealis) in Iceland will be on the top of the list for many travel enthusiasts. But this small Scandinavian country has a lot more to offer like the Blue Lagoon and Whale watching. You can find more details at http://www.express.co.uk/travel/articles/462101/Best-things-to-do-in-Iceland-Northern-lights-whale-watching-and-hot-springs and http://www.visiticeland.com/ .

  • Cambodia

Angkor Wat in Siem Reap is another popular destination. Along with the Royal Palace and Bayon, this South East Asian country has become quite popular with tourists from all over the World. Visit http://www.tourismcambodia.com/  for more information.

  • USA

I just got back from the US and my friend was very upset that I was not able to visit Las Vegas this time. This is the second time Las Vegas simply did not happen for me. Last year I was given an opportunity to go attend a work-related conference but I had to say no due to personal reasons. Well only time will tell if I will ever go there. P.S last time I was in Vegas, I was still a kid.

  • South Africa

Another friend goes to South Africa once every quarter related to work. So he was asking all of us to take a trip here together. I really do have fond memories of this place. But would definitely visit again. Cape Town, Johannesburg, Sun City, Kruger National park are thus added to this list.

  • Portugal

Portugal has been added to one friend’s wish list after one couple from our group went there for their honeymoon and they have been raving about the place since then. Soon, very soon. Details at https://www.visitportugal.com/en

  •  Morocco

Movies set in Morocco like the Casablanca or the latest Mission Impossible has added to the allure of the place for me. Somehow it has always held the fascination for me as well as other tourists and hopefully this charm will definitely open its path for me very soon.  http://www.visitmorocco.com/index.php/eng/ has more details on Moroccan tourism.

  • New Zealand

I have been a huge fan of Lord of the rings and I have always wanted to live in one of those Hobbit houses. Add to it, the picturesque beauty of New Zealand, which has gotten me smitten. New Zealand, however is definitely the place to be if you are an adventure junkie. Check out: http://www.newzealand.com/int/

So our wish list is out. So which country would you choose if you had to choose one?

BOOKING RESOURCES

Looking to book your trip now? Find some of my favorite resources I use while booking my trip. You can also find my travel gear here.

Book Your Flight

I am a Skyscanner fan when it comes to booking international flights. I use Makemytrip and Yatra for domestic flights.

Book Accommodation

Booking  , Agoda and Hotels are my go to resources for booking hotel accommodation and I use Airbnb for booking my homestays. I also compare prices on Tripadvisor always. Another one I always use is Expedia.

Travel Insurance

As an Indian, I prefer ICICILombard and I am always insured when I am traveling outside India. In addition, I have used World Nomads and SafetyWing for some of my trips.

Book Tours

I do go on a lot of day tours especially when I am traveling solo and love going on road trips with my husband.. Depending on convenience, my choices are Viator or Getyourguide.

  1. So true! Travel does always come up in our conversations and we love it. Dave has been to Iceland & the pictures looked amazing so that's on my list. If I had to choose just one I would have to say New Zealand for me and Portugal for Dave. Morocco is the only one on the list that's actually no where on my wishlist. I've heard & read about some issues there that makes me nervous as a woman, but I love to travel and know I'll end up there one day. It's just not on the top of my list right now. Great post!

  2. yessss alll of it! New Zealand – you'll absolutely fall in love! and cambodia too… And there's just so so much more in the US than Vegas. In fact Vegas would be on the bottom of my list compared to all other beauty and awesomeness:) See you on the road!
