Experiences to add to your Luxury Mexico Vacation
When we were living in Mexico city, we were able to do some of the luxury activities listed below while I have earmarked the rest of them for future when we visit Mexico.
If you are looking to splurge a little during your vacation to Mexico, I would definitely recommend that you try some of these while you are there.
So without further ado, listing some Mexico luxury travel experiences below.
Hire a private luxury Yacht in the Sea of Cortez
One of the best things about Mexico is its coastline. Most of you are familiar with the Riviera Maya coastline.
But on the other side of the coast, between the Mexico mainland and the Baja California peninsula lies the Sea of Cortez, also famously known as the World’s biggest aquarium.
And what can define luxury in Mexico at its peak than hiring a Yacht from Yachtzoo and roaming the Gulf of California at your own pace.
The Sea of Cortez is home to a variety of marine animals both endemic as well as migratory including the Blue whale, the Humpback whale, Manta rays among others.
It is also a UNESCO world heritage site home to more than 200 islands and is considered to be one of the best snorkelling/ diving sites in the world.
Spend your time aboard your luxury yacht charter cruising along the coast, visiting some of the prettiest islands, snorkelling/ diving among the majestic whale sharks during season while enjoying premium accommodation on your private Yacht.
Shop for silverware at Taxco
Did you know that a small town called Taxco around 170 kms from Mexico City, is considered to be the silver capital of the world?
If you are looking to buy some of the best silverware in the world, then head to this tiny town famous for its exquisite workmanship and silver products.
Even though mining is no longer an industry in Taxco anymore, head to some exclusive silver shops to learn the process of making silverware.
Here, you will find some one of a kind silver jewellery to make the women in your family happy. Don’t forget to shop your heart out even if it means that your wallet will be lighter by several thousands of dollars by the end of your time in Taxco.
Live like the celebrities in Riviera Nayarit
Most people wonder where celebrities from the US and around the world go for their luxury vacation in Mexico and the answer would be the Riviera Nayarit.
And some of the best luxury resorts in Mexico are found in the community of Punta Mita.
This 1500 acre resort town is home to some luxury resorts like the Four Seasons, Conrad, St Regis among many others including some all inclusive resorts in Mexico.
It is surrounded on three sides by the pacific coast and is home to many golf courses and white sand beaches.
The nearest airport at Puerto Vallarta is only 40 kms away and this community is a must visit during your luxury Mexico vacations.
Stay in Polanco, the Beverley Hills of Mexico City
One of the best experiences we had in Mexico was living in the neighbourhood of Polanco in Mexico City.
Polanco is the most luxurious suburb in the heart of Mexico City and it was such a delight to stay in a neighbourhood that was home to many museums, bohemian cafes, boutiques and some world class restaurants.
You also find an array of luxury hotels in this neighbourhood and if you do not want to reside in Zocalo, I would highly recommend Polanco.
It is also one of the safest neighbourhoods in Mexico City.
Both the 2 star Michellin star restaurants Pujol and Quintonil are located in the Polanco suburb of Mexico City. Don’t forget to dine here during your luxury trip to Mexico.
See one of the New Wonders of the world from a helicopter
One of the best places to visit in Mexico is the Mayan city of Chichen Itza in the Yucatan peninsula.
There are two ways to make this UNESCO world heritage site visit a luxurious experience for you and your family.
One is to hire a private guide for the entire day to take you around the ruins. This would definitely be the stuff of dreams for every history lover during one of your luxury Mexico vacations.
Most people make the mistake of thinking that you can visit the entire complex during a day tour. But unless you take a private tour, you will end up only spending a few hours at the complex which is not enough.
Another way is to hire a helicopter for a couple of hours and view the ruins from above. This would give you a bird eye’s views of how enormous the entire site is.
And since you cannot climb the El Castillo (the pyramid in the picture) anymore, a helicopter ride over the ruins is one of the best luxurious ways to understand the vastness of the complex.
Stay in a billionaire’s converted estate
In the southern state of Jalisco, there is a 36,000 acre property, home to one of the most luxurious stays in the world; the Cuixmala estate.
This was the private estate of Sir James Goldsmith who in his lifetime was notorious in his own way but now is an hotel that can be enjoyed by people who are willing to pay top dollar.
In his day, many celebrities used to frequent his private home whenever he was in Mexico. Nowadays, it is home to a hotel that can house up to 75 guests and still caters to celebrities who are looking for luxury in Mexico.
Cuixmala is home to an exotic wildlife reserve which houses Zebras, Jaguars etc. They have their own turtle hatchery where tiny turtles are periodically released back to the ocean in their multiple private beaches.
All the food is sourced from inside the Cuixmala reserve and the place is so huge that you need a car to get around from one part of the hotel to another.
With a single night stay ranging from 700 to 3000 USD, this place is something I am manifesting for my next luxury trip to Mexico.
Did you know that Cuixmala means ‘The Soul’s resting place’?
Take a hot air balloon ride over the Teotihuacan Pyramids
One of the best day trips from Mexico City has to be visiting the Mesoamerican city of Teotihuacan which is just 40 kms away from Mexico City.
We spent the entire day wandering around the site taking in the many structures including the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon.
We are allowed to climb these pyramids but due to their steep nature, it can be especially daunting to climb them if you have a fear of heights.
A much more easier option and to add a touch of luxury to the whole experience would be to take a hot air balloon ride over these pyramids. A true Mexico luxury tour to be experienced.
Don’t forget to add this to your luxury Mexico itinerary.
